Zamzee: Zamzee Research Results

HopeLab developed Zamzee, an activity meter and motivational website, as a way to get kids moving more. Results from a randomized, controlled study sponsored by HopeLab and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation showed that Zamzee increased physical activity in kids by 59% on average over the six-month study period and had positive impact on risk factors associated with heart disease and diabetes.

Using a combination of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards, the Zamzee website was designed by HopeLab’s behavioral scientists, led by Dr. Steve Cole, to initiate and sustain behavior change. The website allows kids to view their activity levels, earn points for movement, achieve goals, and select rewards – a system optimized through a series of scientific studies conducted by HopeLab.
