Innovative Solutions: Re-Mission™

Re-Mission™, released in 2006, is a pioneering health game for adolescents and young adults with cancer. In the game, players pilot a nanobot named Roxxi as she travels through the bodies of fictional cancer patients, destroying cancer cells, battling bacterial infections, and managing side effects associated with cancer and cancer treatment.

Re-Mission™ is based on the vision of HopeLab founder and board chair Pam Omidyar. To create the game, HopeLab researchers, led by Dr. Pamela Kato, worked with video game developers, cancer experts, psychologists, and young people with cancer.

Research on Re-Mission has demonstrated that specially designed games can drive positive behavior change to improve biological health and illuminated how game play impacts brain function to motivate healthy behavior.
